How the Clan Name Generator works

A clan name has a job. It tells other players who you are before you say a word. The Clan Name Generator builds names from theme word lists and proven patterns, so the results sound like real clans rather than random words.

Ten themes

Each theme has its own describing words, nouns, group words and places. Fierce and shadow suit competitive teams. Mythic, elite and elemental fit fantasy and strategy. Cyber and space suit sci-fi games. Wild works for survival and nature games. Funny and chill are for friendly groups that do not take themselves too seriously.

Six formats

  • Adjective + noun: Crimson Wolves, Silent Ravens.
  • Noun + group word: Storm Legion, Iron Guild.
  • The ___ of ___: The Wolves of Ashfall.
  • Fused word: Nightfang, Stormveil.
  • Adjective + group word: Silent Order.
  • Adjective + noun + group word: Grim Raptor Collective.

Clan tags

A tag is a short label, usually two to five letters, shown next to a player name. The tool builds tags from the initials of the words in the name. If the name has fewer words than the tag length, it adds consonants. You can pick bracket style, dash style or plain letters. Some games limit which characters a tag can use, so always check the current rules of your game. Our guide on clan tags: short tag rules and examples explains how to shorten a name without making it unreadable.

Choosing between finalists

Do not pick a name alone. Save three to five favorites, copy them all and share the list with your members. Ask people to say each name out loud. The one that gets the best reaction is usually the right one. Our guide to choosing a clan name your team will love shows how to run the vote, and clan name ideas by game genre helps you match tone to play style.

Check before you commit

The generator cannot tell you whether a name is already taken in your game. Search for it in the game, on social platforms and on the web. The name availability checklist lists the steps.

FAQ

Clan Name Generator: common questions

How do I make a clan name?

Pick a theme and a format, add a word of your own if you like, and press Generate clan names. Save favorites, then ask your team to vote on two or three finalists.

What is a clan tag?

A clan tag is a short label, often two to five letters, that appears next to a player name. The generator creates a tag for each name.

Can I put my own word in the name?

Yes. Type it into the Word to include box. The tool builds names around it. Use letters and numbers only.

Do these names work in every game?

The names are plain text, so they suit most games. Each game has its own rules for length and characters, so check your game before you commit.

Can I make a funny clan name?

Yes. Choose the Funny theme for playful names such as Sleepy Llamas, or Chill for friendly, relaxed teams.

Does the generator guarantee a name is unique?
